Quick project Finished

One of the guys at work actually requested that I knit a him a hat!.  Now the hard part was deciding what hat to knit.  First I dug through stash to find the right yarn.  Since this was for a guy, pastels and bright colors were out.....

Luckily I found the perfect yarn.  Four Seasons Gründl Susanna  The color is Long Beach.  Guess they were think of the sand colors with the water when they named it.

Now the hard part was picking the right pattern for a guy.  Of course went to Ravelry and searched all the patterns that were close to the gauge of the yarn .  The one I finally settled on actually called for thicker yarn but I liked the pattern so I modified it!!

Leslie Friend created a neat pattern I really liked. Chunky Knit Beanie   Her pattern required size 15 needs using Cascade - Magnum yarn.
Fiber:100% Pure Wool
Yardage:2 x 250gr / 123 yds
Gauge:1.5-2 sts=1" / #15-17

Now the yarn I wanted to use was just a little smaller~

Four Seasons - Susanna
Fiber:70%  Wool/ 30% Acrylic
Yardage:44 yds - 50g ball
Gauge:2.75 sts=1" / #11
Also her pattern starts from the brim and works up to the top.  Since my yarn's gauge didn't match hers, I wanted to start from the top and work down to make sure it would fit.

I used US 10.5 circular needles.  For the cast on I used my favorite method - Judy Becker Magic Cast On.  I followed her method increasing every other row until I had 84 stitches ( 13 increases after the initial 6 stitches)  .  I then knitted 6 rows before I starting  the ridges.  I did 7 ridges and then used Jeny Staiman Stretchy Bind Off.  This method was way too cool!  Loved how the hat stretched.  Perfect way to finish off the hat!

Of course I was in such a rush to give the hat to the person I knitted for that I forgot to take a picture.  Will have to make another one and take a picture.
