Sip-n-Stitch Arrives!!!

I had forgotten that I had signed up for a yarn club from The Unique Sheep.  February was a long time ago!!
The name of the club is the Sip-n-Stitch Tea,  The package contained green mug with the logo from The Unique Sheep, 4 skeins of the Verve -  Pineapple Gradiance series and Fiji tea (Green Tea with Pineapple and Papaya) from SerendipiTea . The smell is so yummy!!!

The only question now is what to knit with the yarn!  Each skein is 100 yds so I have 400 yds total

Stitches South 2012 - Class and Pictures

Finally I have to time to capture last weeks Stitches South in Atlanta, Ga.  I was able to finally take the course I was signed up to take the previous year!!  Jean Frost's Lining à la Chanel

This is the description from their website
Coco Chanel developed a special way to line her beautiful jackets. You will learn these lining techniques step by step. You will leave the class with the skills needed to line jackets in this manner. A lined jacket is a masterpiece and a joy to wear. Learn how to assemble, sew in a lining, and finish a jacket in the same manner in which Chanel couture garments are made. Get hands-on experience in lining and finishing your jacket like a pro!

The pattern I chose was JaspeRed from Knitter's Magazine Fall 2007.  I started this pattern a while ago and put it down when I got frustrated with the sleeves.  Last year I signed up to take Jean Frost's Lining à la Chanel at Stitches South 2011.  Jean Frost had to cancel at the last minute due to illness :-( so  I put this away again.  Luckily the times of the classes fell on Sat pm and Sun am.  After the class was over I have one sleeve that has the lining quilted to the sleeve.

Stripe Study Shawl

I started the Stripe Study Shawl back in January and joined the Knit Along (KAL) that froggymonkey started on her group knitting in circles podcast group.

The yarn I chose was from my stash.  I had bought this a couple years ago when my local yarn store was closing.  The yarn is a 4 ply sock yarn that has Aloe Vera.  It is 75% superwash wool and 25% nylon.  The ball you use for the stripes will determine how big the shawl is.  The darker wool in my project will have a lot left over.  Here is a link to the details on needle size etc from my project notebook on Ravelry.

This was a little tricky to get it started.  You cast on 3 stitches and then add increases that I had to write out as a chart to ensure it was correct.  I'm now on the eight stripe. As you complete your stripe it takes longer and longer to finish each one.  Looks like you add two rows for each stripe. Here are some pictures of the project

Banana Bread Recipe

Finally found my recipe for Banana Bread!  This one is neat because you add cinnamon and nutmeg.  My mom got this recipe back in the 60's in Panama.  I have never seen it in a cookbook or on line  We modified the recipe over time - originally 1 cup of fat and 1.5 cups of sugar.

1/2 cup of shortening
1 tsp baking soda
4 T buttermilk
1 cup sugar
1.5 cups plain flour
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg
2 eggs
1 cup nuts (pecans or walnut) chopped
1 tsp vanilla
3 very very ripe bananas (mashed)

Cream shortening and sugar together , add eggs and beat
Add nuts

Sift dry ingredients in separate bowl then add to bowl and mix
(flour, baking soda, cinnamon and nutmeg)

Add buttermilk, bananas and vanilla

Pour into a greased loaf pan

Bake 350 degree oven for 1 hour

Summertime Knitting

OTN: Summer Mystery Shawlette - on section 2 by Wendy D. Johnson
I tried to start section 2 while on a trip in the car. Needless to say I didn't get through the first marker. Off it went back into it's bag.  SInce this is my first really lace project, I picked a less expensive yarn.

Been a while...

Time flies. Haven't been happy with my socks I started last year so they sit in the UFO until I get the time to frog them back and start the leg again.

Since then I have been to Stitches South and bought the following yarn and pattern from cute shop, http://www.sugarfootyarns.com/ located in Peachtree City, Georgia. This is the finished product.  THe last picture is the reverse side
